What to wear for a summer company picnic

It's customary for large to mid size companies to host events such as picnics and BBQ for their employees during this time of the year. I've typically seen such events held at parks, horse race tracks, lake side sports fields, etc. It's a great venue for people to show the more casual side of themselves, and bond with other employees/management outside of work.

One thing that's always challenged me though, of course, is what to wear to these events. It's difficult to dress for an occasion when you are trying to mingle with (potentially impress) your professional network while trying to relax and be comfortable.

I mean, it's a picnic after all. so let me help you with the outfit part so you just have to focus on the relaxing! Here are some outfit ideas that in general are very easy to put together!

1. Mixing patterns - for your inner fun loving rebel!

Today's fashion scene is all about mixing patterns. But it's not reserved just for the bold! When you pick the right pattern, they could look very harmonious and corporate appropriate. Well, corporate picnic appropriate, at least. Here I've paired an Equipment sleeveless striped top with a pair of Banana Republic windowpane trousers. The clutch I'm using is a Chanel Wallet On Chain. I've also provided similar items with links below the photos.

Bottom: Banana Republic Windowpane trousers (discounted Brooks Brothers similar here
Clutch: Chanel Wallet on Chain in Red (find used/new ones here on Poshmark)
Shoes: Chanel leather espadrilles in white  (find used/new ones here on Poshmark)
Sunglasses: Gucci ombré sunglasses (discounted Tom Ford similar here)

2. Flowy and feminine - for the girly girl who just wants to be comfortable for once

The theme of this outfit is comfortable, allow me to repeat myself! The silk top is breathable, and in my example, I picked a sleeveless top to stay cool in hot weathers in Southern California. The midi skirt is also airy and flowy which is conducive to sitting down on grass. To achieve that professionally accepted look though, pick a midi skirt that holds its shape well and stays wrinkle-free. For shoes, I'm wearing a pair of leather sandals to echo the casualness of my look. Lastly I'm wearing a leather clutch with cute hummingbird prints... isn't it adorable?!

For footwear, in case you're leery of showing toes in professional environment, pair this outfit with a cute pair of oxfords, like these cute Cynthia Vincent ones here. (They're on sale now!!)

3. Jeans and fun prints -  a look for just about anyone!

The third outfit is a simplistic and easy look that is on the more casual side of the spectrum. I've paired another Equipment top (a big Equipment fan here in case you haven't noticed!) with a pair of everyday jeans. The highlight of this outfit are the color blocking crossbody purse and the mirrored aviators. It's an outfit that allows you to showcase your personal style and maintain the comfort you need for that picnic!
